Leakin’: Eminem x Slaughterhouse

I’ll give it to Marshall; he has the best collection of handlers in Hip Hop. Just saying. These are the iTunes bonus tracks from their “version” of ‘Recovery.’

Sam Adams, iTunes & Ray Benzino

The industry done changed, homie.

Sam Adams, the Boston rapper, not the guy who makes flavored spit water, is being accused of buying his own music from iTunes. The total amount he’s accused of spending is roughly $75,000. Of course, he refutes the accusations, & says that he has a fan base that supports him, which may, or may not be true. But who cares?

The fact that his sales are monitored so closely is just another sign of the industry’s Big Brother-esque attempts at controlling what the consumer consumes. A young, relatively unknown rapper makes a nominal dent in a failing market, & immediately is said to have bought all the sold copies? If this dude isn’t selling crack by the van loads, working quadruple shift at Burger King or pimping the prettiest White girls in Massachusetts, I can’t imagine where he’d come up with that kind of cash to blow on himself anyway. Although, if he did do it, I’d like to think he’d be smarter about buying his own shit, like Def Jam. I’m sure they have money laundering in Boston. He could’ve just gave Benzino a call.

The way I see it, it’s self-promotion, however retarded it may be, & if he’s tricking anybody, it’s himself. Until the RIAA has a category for WHO bought the records, I couldn’t care less anyway. I buy shit because I like it, not because 20,000 other motherfuckers think it’s cool. I bought ‘Deeper Than Rap’ the day it dropped, & look how that turned out. Oh, & Sam’s a White dude, so no race card pulling allowed. Just saying.

I don’t trust anybody farther than I can throw them. That said, in all likelihood he could’ve done it. If so, this guy must have the self confidence of a 13 year-old, cross eyed, overweight midget with over active sweat glands & the worst case of Hallitosis ever. There’s no point in going into music if you don’t believe in yourself. Your talent should speak to how you are, not what you can do for yourself. That’s what masturbation is for. Besides, free music is the new records sold. “Leaked” is the new mixtape. Cats don’t buy records when they don’t have to, but that’s not going to impede the people’s voice or popular vote. Souljah Boy became famous by giving away songs. He stayed the course, persevered, & look where it got him. I wouldn’t want anything to do with a middle man if my name was already buzzing either.

If we learned nothing else from this kerfuffle, it’s that the industry, as a business, is on it’s last legs. They should be happy with whatever sales they get, period. & congrats, Sam. Purposely or inadvertently, your name is now a verb.
